Career
Paulina Porizkova was born in Czechoslovakia and was separated from her family during the
Warsaw Pact Invasion. After seven years she was reunited with her mother and lived with her in Sweden. When she was 15, a friend sent a picture of her to
Elite Modeling Agency. Throughout the 1980's Porizkova became a top model in Paris as well as the United States. She has been featured in numerous
Sports Illustrated and non-nude
Playboy magazines and calendars. She has also been featured in
Vogue,
Elle,
Self,
Cosmopolitan, and
Glamour. In 1990 and 1992 Porizkova was chosen as one of
People's Fifty Most Beautiful People.
Paulina Porizkova also became involved in acting when she was seventeen, however none of her films were very successful. She appeared in
Portfolio, Anna which was written by
Agnieska Holland and directed by Yurek Bogayevicz, Her Alibi where she starred with
Tom Selleck, Arizona Dream which starred
Johnny Depp, Thursday, and Knots. Later, she appeared in
Female Perversions starring Tilda Swinton, Wedding Bell Blues with Julie Warner and Ileana Douglas, After the Rain, and
People I know with
Al Pachino. She also was a hostess for an
E! show and appeared on the 2007 season of
Dancing with The Stars.
Porizkova wrote
A Model Summer and the children's book
The Adventures of Ralphie and Roach as well.
